Severe Risk Tonight? T-Storms Have Already Fired In Our Area
We have been watching a small cluster of t-storms moving toward Tell City, IN this afternoon. Right now that is the only game in town, but there is a larger line of storms moving through central Missouri that will be pushing this way overnight. Notice the small cluster in the western part of our area that can be expected in the metro in about 60 minutes.
This is the area in Missouri that will fill in and become a line of storms as it moves in our direction tonight.
Storm Prediction Center Severe Weather Risk Tonight
As things stand, SPC does not have us in the risk of severe weather tonight. Here is their latest update.
SPC Categorical Risk Of Severe Weather Today / Tonight
Notice the slight risk cuts off in western KY.
SPC Hail Threat Today / Tonight
Notice hail threat is confined to the slight risk area to our west.
SPC Damaging Wind Threat Today / Tonight
Notice SPC contains the 15% chance of severe weather to the slight risk area, but add a 5% chance all the way to I-65.
SPC Tornado Threat Today / Tonight
Notice the tornado threat is not in our area. Of note is the hatched area over Arkansas which indicates a 10% chance of greater of an EF-2 to EF-5 tornado within 25 miles of a point in that area.
My Thoughts On Our Severe Weather Threat
I will have much more on the threat of severe weather on WDRB News at 5, 6:30, and 10 pm then in my blog later today. I think SPC has this placement absolutely perfect to be honest. I criticize them when I don't agree, but they do deserve credit when they make a good forecast. The slight risk is the identical place I would put it. The storms should go flat right as they move across the IN/IL border. The 5% chance SPC has to I-65 is also a good safety net for our area. While I don't think much will come from this in our area, I cannot rule out a warning or two for our area. Damaging winds would be the main threat with the collapsing line.
