Timing Out Of Cold Front Today!
The cold front we have talked about for a week is now making it's way into our area. It is going to bring much colder air into our area later this afternoon / evening, so I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect.
Cold Surge Occurring
The cold air surge has already begun in part of our area. Notice Jasper, IN and Bedford, IN are about 10 degrees colder than most of the area. The front is already moving through the northwest part of our area.
Looking that the wind chill values behind this makes you shiver a bit. Notice the wind chills near 40 in Des Moines, IA and in the 20s in North Dakota!!!
Timing The Cold Air Surge Across Our Area
AdvanceTrak has a very good grasp on this storm system and moves the cold air into all of our southern Indiana counties by 5 pm. The front should be right on the doorsteps of Louisville by 5 pm.
Notice the sharp temperature drop by 7 pm and 9 pm! Louisville drops 9 degrees in 2 hours, so it will get colder fast this evening.
By the end of your Friday night football games, quite frankly it will be chilly. Temps will have fallen nearly 25 degrees from the afternoon high so please remember your coat.
Rain Timeline
The rain is WAY out pacing the computer models this afternoon. That is indeed a problem for the timeline that rain will occur. I am going to basically have to throw away the NAM and GFS this afternoon since they are both just wrong. Notice the rain is spready into Indianapolis right now and nearing the southwestern IN border.
Most the high resolution data brings rain into the metro area between 5 pm and 6 pm. The rain should become steady from 7 - 10 pm. This means the rain is moving about 5 hours faster than all the data suggested last night. If you are north or west of Mundfordville, KY then you should expect to deal with rain during your Friday night football games.
AdvanceTrak and the HRRR computer models have the best handle on the situation this afternoon. Notice the high resolution data from AdvanceTrak catching the speed better. Remember the timestamp is on the top right part of each image.
