Where did all the dirt come from???

You may have found yourself cleaning the dirt off your windshield this afternoon after the showers came to an end.

But where did all this dirt come from???

Dirty windshield

This occurs when you have a strong storm system interacting with a dry/drought conditions.

Although we are no longer in a drought, much of the plains still is.

The low pressure system currently spinning over the midwest caused high winds over the plains to pick up lots of dirt and dust.

In fact, parts of I-35 over parts of Kansas and Oklahoma were shut down earlier due to a dust storm that severely limited visibility.

This is a visible satellite image from earlier today showing the giant dust cloud.

This dirt/dust got kicked up into the mid levels of the atmosphere and it spread across our region due to strong winds aloft.

The rain showers that developed earlier today, then picked up the dirt on the way down and rained it out onto your car!
