Tornado Outbreak in Progress. Town of Wayne, NE hit hard!
While our weather has been relatively quiet today, that has not been the case across the Plains!
This image has been making its rounds on Twitter this evening since the storm developed southwest of Wayne Nebraska at around 5:20 PM CT this evening.
This is obviously a massive wedge tornado and initial reports indicate that the storm could have been as much as two miles wide!
Here's another image of the same storm as it approached Wayne. Shown here shrowded by rain.
Unfortunately, the town of Wayne was hit pretty hard with many pictures of damage coming in.
So far there have been 13 non confirmed reports of tornados across portions of Nebraska and unfortunately the show is not over yet as the storms have moved into Western Iowa where multiple warnings remain in effect.
The tornadic activity has developed in reponse to a deep area of low pressure that is currently spinning across the Northern Plains drawing warm and moist air up ahead of it and a shot of very cold air behind it where Winter Storm Warnings and Blizzard Warnings continue for portions of the Dakotas!
A Moderate Risk of severe weather continues tonight for much of Iowa.
This storm will bring a threat of severe weather to our area late tomorrow and into Sunday.
