Tropical Storm Karen Threatens The Gulf...

Hurricane watches and warnings are now in effect for a section of the Gulf Coast. Louisiana, Misissippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle are most vulnerable as Tropical Storm Karen tracks to the NNW at 12 mph...

The intensity and timing are now the main focus as Karen progresses in the warm waters of the Gulf. This environment is favorable for development but I think the wind shear will prevent this storm from becoming too strong. It will most likely become a high-end tropical storm or perhaps even a low-end hurricane before making landfall late Friday night or early Saturday morning. The map below shows the spaghetti plots of Karen's track through Tuesday of next week...

Heavy rain, gusty winds, and storm surge are the primary theats that we will continue to monitor over the next few days. An interaction with a mid-latitude cold front will enhance rainfall potential as the remnants of Karen slide up the East Coast. Stay tuned for more details.
