Major Winter Storm Poised to Strike the Southeast!
Old Man Winter is poised to strike the south again!
Winter Storm Warnings, Ice Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories, Freezing Rain Advisories, and a Winter Storm Watch have been posted from Texas through Dixie and into the heart of the Southeast.
A cold front moving through the Southeastern US will stall out and will combine with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to create multiple waves of icy precipitation over the next few days.
Rain is expected to mix with an change to freezing rain and sleet across portions of Louisianna, Mississippi and into Georgia later tonight and into the morning hours tomorrow.
A second, stronger wave of low pressure looks to develop by Wednesday and looks to result in more widespread frozen precipitatoin with heavy snowfall forming over much of the Southern Appalachians.
In addition to heavy snow for some locations, there is a potential for dangerous ice accumulations of 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch across the Carolinas and northern Georgia by midweek.
Snowfall could be crippling for parts of the Appalachians with models going over a foot for places like Asheville, Roanoke and Charleston.
We too could see a bit of snow on Valentines Day. For the latest on how much, be sure to join Marc with a full update this evening on WDRB News.
