Is the Recent Lack of Rain a Preview of What's to Come
After the Derby deluge, we have hardly seen any rain! Only 0.21" of rain has fallen in the last 10 days, but there are hints at higher moisture content in the next system.
This tropical low pressure will track north and funnel some added moisture toward us before the weekend. It brings tropical moisture with it meaning higher moisture content.
The drought to our west is likely influencing some of our recent rain events. While our flow recently has been from the southwest, it is bringing us some of that drier air. It's also important to recognize there have been higher rain totals in our area, but that rain hasn't hit the Louisville airport where records are kept.
The short-term (6-10 day) outlook from the Climate Prediction Center shows a 35%-40% chance of above normal precipitation amounts in that time frame, but the longer-range outlook is drier. In the 3-4 week outlook, CPC has a 55% chance of below normal precipitation for Kentuckiana.
Marc and Rick will break down our rain chances and projected amounts through the rest of the week on WDRB tonight. Tune in to hear their forecasts.
